    Default White Sponge

I was looking at my tank today and I noticed in the back behind my rock, there's seem's to be some white sponge looking stuff growing, is this a good thing or bad thing. I can't take a picture of it cause of the location of where it's growing. Anyone have any thought's on what it might be, and is it harmful.
    Thanks
    Bobby

from what i have read and have understood is they play an extremely important role in the nutrient cycle. Sponges i believe filter the water. they also take up planktonic particles such as bacteria and excrete inorganic nutrients. these nutrients can facilitate the growth of marine plants and other organisms.
    hope this helps some

Thanks for the reply ENV. I guess I'll leave but i'm going to have to control it, cause there is a bunch of it behind my rock. What will it do if it gets on my rock with zoa's etc, will the sponge kill them. I noticed today that I have a rock with my zoa going and some white sponge starting to grow. should I pull the sponge off.
    Thanks again for the reply.

i have a rock that had about 20 or thirty zoa's on it. there is now a white sponge on the back and growing around the front and now there is only 4 or 5 zoa's left. I don't understand though i put this rock in high light and the sponge keeps growing. any suggestions?

I have the same problem. What I do with the rock that as zoa's on it, is I put it out of the tank and pick the sponge off.I don't know if that's a good idea or not.
