I just bought water from my economical vendor (not the water-mill). TDS 7, nitrates -5, but detectible. Is this comparable to LFS filtered water? I'd rather pay more for good water if I'm not getting good water.

TDS from a good DI system should read close to 0ppm

7ppm TDS isnt too bad for store bought water, I wouldnt use it in a reef but not bad nonetheless, good drinking water though!

What does having a higher tds cause? Is it just food for algae growth?

Took the question right out of my mouth (no offense taken). The water sample I took this morning had detectible nitrates approx 5. Does TDS have anything to do with Nitrates, or should I expect similar traces of nitrates in LFS water?
