Thread: Suppliments and healthy rock

    Default Suppliments and healthy rock

I've got a 90 gal with approx 80 lbs rock (I add more as I can ... would like about 25-30 more lbs). I don't have the right lighting for corals yet, so I'm trying to focus on stable, healthy parameters and coralline. When I go to the LFS there are more supplements than I can shake a stick at … so which ones do I need to keep healthy rock? I've gone through two bottles of purple-up (that worked great), I am most of the way through my jugs of B-ionic solution and I've also got a bottle of Calcium. The hard, purple stuff seems to be growing, however, tends to flake off here and there once in a while. Am I missing something (other than lighting)?

I would definitely keep up with the B-ionic supplements. My coral do really well on it!!!

I agree with Anthony, B-Ionic is really easy to use and works well. Plus, it's simple to fine tune to make sure you are dosing properly for both alkalinity and calcium.

Ditto on the BI. Make sure you are testing your ph, CA, Alk though.

Make sure you have good flow as it's "good" for the rocks.

Kent Mg and Tech I are two other good suppliments.

Killed my first coral in 1991, have tried to do better since. Always tricky.

Alk 8.4, Ph 8.3, CA +-480. Flow's not that great (950 gph in sump, 150 ghp powerhead behind rock), but I'm savin up for some Koralia's. I'll get those after christmas. I've got MG, but don't have a test kit for it so I don't use it very much.
