don't forget that with any surgeonfish you have to supplement its food with garlic and give them there greens if not they will get an outbreak also having cleaner shrimp and fish help

No offense, but that is NOT good advice in this situation. You know the fish is gonna outgrow the tank so what are you gonna do? Keep it there until it gets ich and spreads it to all your other fish? Or just keep him until he dies? because thats inevitable.

so what you are saying is you would rather let the fish spread ich in your bigger main tank than to make sure it doesn't have ich before going to a bigger tank.

isn't that the purpose of housing a fish somewhere else before introducing him to the main so you don't spread ich or velvet to anything else and worry about losing out on livestock

Having a quarantine or hospital tank that is set up to provide temporary observatory care is very different than putting a fish in a small display tank that has other fish in it, with expectation to house it there. When you set up a QT tank, it typically has no sand or rock in it to ensure that the fish has as much room as possible, but also to where you can medicate, if necessary without subjecting things that aren't sick to invasive medicine.

If you need more information about what a quarantine tank is, follow this link:

it's a very good idea, something you'd never regret having but might regret not having

this one's gone too far off topic for too long. I'm going to close the thread, and if there are any more questions about QT, please start a new thread in the Reefkeeping Forum, thanks
