Thread: frame for 100 gallon stand

Default frame for 100 gallon stand

Would this frame design provide enought strength for a 100 gallon tank??

2x6 and 2x4's? I've seen houses built with less wood than that stand. The only thing I'd worry about is that it might collapse under it's own weight. That's a lot of stand. My 125g is supported only by 1/2" particle board sheets. There is no additional bracing.

Yeah, that design is overkill. Some stands as mentioned by Mike only use plywood. I prefer to be a bit more solid though using 2x4's. The stand I built for my old 75g tank had a 2x4 in each corner plus one in the middle along each of the longer sides. That with plywood sides and top make a very sturdy stand.

Not to mention that design would only leave about 6" (ok I'm poking fun at it a little) for your sump between pieces of wood.

caferacermike, well I'm glad that I have a sturdy design. I just wanted it to be safe for my 6 month old. I've updated the image to get a better overview of the corner structure. I might update the design... and lay the bottom 2 x 6's flat against the floor to help disperse the weight.

it will be more than strong enough. the only thing i would change is the way the vertical 2X4's orient with the top and bottom frame. something more like this is the way i always build them (ive built a few ) i also only use 2X4's - only use 2X6's when someone requests them.

strange... the thumbnail shows the correct view of the top corner, but the large version leaves out a line.
