new tv advice what to get

we are looking for a new tv to go in the new house. We went and looked at them over the weekend and now im totally lost. there are so many different types, hd, lcd, led, projection.......what should i get or not get?
we are looking for a 50" or bigger, that is thin enough to either mount on the wall or on a small shelf. We will be using either regular(not hd)paragon cable or satallite. Most likely will stay on the cartoon network like now for the kids with the occasional dvd for us.
any help or maybe just guidance as to what all the different tv's are would be great

if your not going to use hd and cartoons and dvd is all its going to be playing....


these are the features you want...


lcd or plasma

1080i or 1080p depends on price

hdmi 1.3

and a hd dvd or blu-ray dvd player when you are ready...


no need to spend big money because your dvd collection is not hd... cartoon network is not hd... and your cable your not going to be watching wont be hd.....

now if you changed your cable to hd its tottaly worth it...

If you are not going HD I wouldn't spend the extra money on a 1080p/i tv. It would be useless since Cartoonnetwork and dvd won't be in HD. You can buy a cheap upconvert dvd player that will make your regular dvds look better.
