Chiller output into skimmer

Can anyone think of a reason why I should not run my 1/3 H.P. chiller output into a skimmer.

This would help me take a pump or 2 out of the system.

I could remove the skimmer pump and just have a mag 12 run into the chiller. And the chiller output would go into the skimmer.

Or best of all for me. I have extra pressure from my main pump (Dart) that I could send to the chiller, then the skimmer.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

what kind of skimmer? if it is a beckett, it will put back pressure on the chiller, and i dont know if that is a good idea.

Back pressure, O.K., I didn't think of that.

It is not a Beckett. (not the one you fixed for me). It is the one I got from Josh / Sean. Kent Marine Nautilus ex, Turbo-eductor skimmer.

I would "assume" it would put a little back pressure. The only place I could see a future leak from a weak point is where the metal cooling tube goes into the plastic water container inside the chiller.


Sooo....What do you think. Could I still have problems? Still possibly too much back pressure.

you could build a manifold and it will take you a little bit of time to get the correct flow to each device, the dart should be able to handle it, the back pressure can be used by the other devices, but like I said it will take a little time to get it right

I experimented with this just to see what would happen. The chiller lowered the pressure too much, causing the skimmer to barely skim.

Even if it did skim, I dont think it would have been a good idea to put too much back pressure on the chiller tank seals. Thanks Ace.

Jose, I do have a manifold device on my main pump. I am going to experiment and install another T fitting to supply the chiller.
