Thread: Planning the Aquapod 24

    Default Planning the Aquapod 24

I am in the process of assembling the pieces for my first reef tank.... have kept saltwater fish in the past but not a reef.

Here is the current list of equipment:

    Aquapod 24 w/ SunPod 150 watt HQI
CPR Aquafuge 2 PS (small) w/ built-in Protien Skimmer - use stock CPR pump
CPR 24 watt PC light for refugium
    Prime Chiller 1/15 HP
Mag 5 Pump (to replace stock pump and also run the chiller)
    Stealth 100w heater
Aqua Medic SP 3000 Niveaumat (for auto top off)
Purigen added to the chamber in the back of the tank
Carib Sea Mineral Mud for refugium
    Timer for lights and moonlights

    - What is going to be the best way to plumb everything? Should the pump go on the intake/outtake side? In or out of the water? Will there be enough circulation in the main tank?

Any suggestions of what works / does not work? What next? I should have my stand next week. Stocking suggestions welcome. :unsure

    I am guessing I will.

I have a 90 gallon freshwater tank in the same room with halides on in and it gets up to 82-83 in the day unless I keep a strong fan on it. It is closed on the sides but open on the top and back. No glass lids between the lights and water.

To keep evaporation down, fish in and cat out, I plan on using the glass cover for the tank.

If you don't want to use fans to cool your tank, you will need a chiller.

On my Bio Cube 29 the temp stay at 74-76 all day long with the lights running, but my AC is set on 72 in the house. Id safetly assum that your tank running with the MH and the mag 5 pump would easily be around 79-81. You will not need the heater either.

I just got the tank set up this past weekend. We keep the house about 78 degrees. With the size of the room and other tanks, it went up to 85 on a trial run. Glad I went with the chiller.
