I just recently purchased a calcium reactor and ph computer. The instructions are telling me to set the ph at 7, isn't that a tad low for a reef tank?

Is that the one that goes in the reactor? If so I believe it measures the water inside the chamber only. When the PH goes above 7.0 it releases the CO2 to make the water more acid(?) like to continue melting the media. The effluent is near 7.0 that drips back into the tank. Some people buy reactors with 2 chambers and the second chamber helps to stabilize the PH and vent off leftover CO2 before adding it to the main tank.
BANNED!
are you meaning a ph controller? If so, you set it at 7.0 so that the regulator starts putting CO2 into the reactor and it regulates the amount that goes into the reactor, then it will turn off/on over and over. You want to monitor the ph of the effluent coming out of the reactor. That effluent going into the tank should be 7.0. If you have a dual chamber, the ph in the first chamber should be near 6.5.

Yup, the ph controller probe screws into the co2 reactor, but there is only one chamber, then it flows back into my sump.
