I am wondering if it ok to put the same stain i would use on my stand on the trim of 100 gallon aquarium, because i want the trim to match the stand i think the fake wood color is ugly, has anybody ever done it before, i don't think stain would work, i might just end up spray painting it black or something, any help would be appreciated, thanks

I have been getting the wood color stand ready for a stain, so it is not stained yet

did you rub it down with some sandpaper? I don't think you can stain plastic, but you can paint it.

You could buy a strip of molding of the same type wood as the stand so they will stain identically.
A descent 2 sided tape will hold it (scuff up the plastic trim with sandpaper) or glue it down.
    Gives the trim some "flair".

I had a tank with brown trim, but my stand and canopy were black, so I just used the Krylon Fusion spray paint on the trim and it worked out pretty well

Paint it or buy some wood trim/molding that is tall enough to attach to the top of the stand and will hide the plastic trim of the tank. Then you can stain the wood to match the rest of your stand.
