HOLY COW WATER EVERYWHERE!

So I am at my son's baseball game and luckily my wife's sister is visiting from out of town. She heard a pop and thought nothing of it but before you know it 10 minutes later there is water EVERYWHERE. She calls in a panick not knowing where the water was coming from. She thought that the tank had busted. After some quick questions it turns out that one of the RO canisters had CRACKED so I proceeded to tell her to shut off the water under the sink. Anyway has this ever happened to anyone? I guess I will be replacing some carpet...

RO canister as in storage tank? What were you using to hold the water with?

I mean one of the filters that holds the carbon....

Was it an Ebay type of canister? I've heard that the Chinese imitations have a thinner wall, lower beraking point, than some of the more quality cans. I run 112psi through my Spectrapure. I was assured by everyone that it would burst, however Spectrapure assured me theirs are rated up to 250psi.

It was one of the coralife chambers just like in the following link; http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/ro_cor.htm How do you know how much psi goes through? I've had it for over a year now and never had any problems. I even changed the filters a couple of weeks ago...

Well some RO units come with a PSI gauge showing the pressure going into the unit. You may be able to buy a aftermarket gauge, but I'm not sure who would sell one.

Where did it crack? Close to the threads or on the side or on the bottom? Sounds like it may have cracked at the threads if you just replaced a filter. If it was overtightened, that can lead to stress and that could make your cannister crack. OR it could have cracked when overtightened and it finally gave way now.

Just make sure to check the main unit also. It may have also cracked there too. You don't want to order a new cannister only to find out you have to replace the main unit also.....

It cracked along the lenth of the canister at the corner of one of the grooves that is used to screw on and screw off...The funny thing is that there wasn't any sort of pressure build up since I did a water change earlier in the day...but maybe I did over tighten??? oh well, where can I get a replacement?

Along the groove is where I'd expect them to crack. The groove is there because that is the thinnest part of the cartridge. Most LFS will have them, you can probably find replacements at HDepot, little Ace Hardwares around here in ATX carry them for about $12, you could order them from Buckeye Field supply.

You can also buy gauges really cheap from Buckeye, not to mention the customer service appears to be top notch.
