Thread: Anyone in Austin could help me with my Icecap 660?

Today I turned on my 6ft Vho's and it was working just fine. I went to get a bite to eat and when I got in the light was off? I checked the wires and fuse. I didn't see any problems so I replaced the power cord with a brand new one and replaced the fuse. I took off the VHos to shake them and heard nothing shaking inside. So the only other thing I could think of is the ICE CAP ballast 660. Anyone with a voltage meter or something that could test if the power is going to each wire in Austin, Texas. Any fellow Reef electrician that wouldn't mind helping me out and take a look at it? Any suggestions about what esle could it be? If the balaast was blown it would have taken out the fuse right? and with a new fuse, I don't smell smoke or anything burning.

You can try calling the mfg. I have had GREAT success with them, they can run you thru a trouble shooting process. Is it still under warranty?

Fluorescent bulbs don't have filaments like incandescent bulbs so shaking it doesn't tell you much about the bulb.

I have a multi meter and could help. I would call the manufacturer first because there is some pretty big power coming out of the ballast. You don't want to be hit with that. Check to make sure your sockets aren't rusted or damaged.

Ice Cap guys are AWESOME!!!! They repaired the ballast at no charge even when the ballast is out of warranty and told me exactly what may have caused it. They recommend replacing the power strip in case of another mishap. I will be getting my ballast on Weds!!! My corals are not glowing so I'm not too happy right now. YEAH!! and it only cost me 6.00 @ the post office to ship it to them.
