Thread: Automatic Fish Feeder - Damsels/Chromis

Default Automatic Fish Feeder - Damsels/Chromis

so I was reading about chromis and damsels in the new CORAl magazine this weekend (and it just so happens i just added 3 chromis)

and it refers to a study that they did concerning the agression of chromis and damsels in relation to their hunger.

essentially, what they found, and my numbers may be off here as i don't have it right infront of me, is that aggression almost completely evaporated when the fishes had full bellies.

in nature, chromis have been measured to eat once every 7 some odd seconds.

obviously we can't reproduce this completely in our tanks, but the authors setup an automatic feeder to try and re-create this feeding behavior as close as possible and their result, was the fish becoming more docile. (they were feedin freeze drid cyclopzeeze)

so... here's my question, and my fear: does anyone know of an automatic feeder that is high quality and trust worthy... I don't think I have to tell you how scared I am of automatic feeders, w/ goof reason, they have a horrid reputation.

I'd like to read that magazine. Since most people feed 1-2 perday and if they have damsels or chormis then that just equals really bad tank mates
    29G Mixed tank, 380w of light (250w 14k Ushio, 2x65w PC Actinic), Octopus NW110, 75x turnover.

Finally after years I have a tank worth showing!

exactly my thoughts louie, and of course, I work usually 10 hours a day, my lights go on when I am at work, and sometimes go off before i come home... so an automatic feeder only makes good sense to me.

I am just petrified from horror stories I have heard...

I am looking at this one now... it feeds 8 times a day in controllable amounts, and I only want to feed very very small portions.
