    Default pollys pet shop

Just to give a heads up about this place. I advise anyone who shops there to stop. One, the prices on things in there is outrageous. You can find a lot better deals at other places and even if you have to take a little drive to other places it is worth it. Second, the owner is a liar. If anyone had been in there and noticed the big parrot that was there named Forrest, is not there anymore. If you ask the owner what happened to him he would tell you that he took him home. But what really happened is that Forrest got sick and even though the employees tried to get the owner to take it to a vet, even the employees said they would pay for the vet bill the owner still would not take him and he died. After a second parrot came down with the same symptoms it took a little while before he finally took that one to the vet. He told the employees to lie about what happened to the parrot but most have said they would not lie about it but this is what the owner wants. He really does not run a legit business. As far as the fish go there, out of 5 fish that I have gotten from them only one has survived. The fish that I have gotten from wolf reef and fishy business have been very healthy and are growing with no losses. I think this is because he keeps the salinity so low, even though employees have tried to tell him that it needs to be higher, he does not care, because once a customer comes in and buys and leaves the store it is out of his hands. I was in there tonight when I noticed the owner responded to on of the employees that brought in a clam to ask a question about to another employee. The Story: They went to Wolf Reef and got a lot of nice corals, a clam and some snails but I guess they had a question about the clam. On the way home they stopped by Polly’s Pet shop where she worked to ask about the clam that they got and to get some stuff for bonding rock together. The owner (Steve) waited until her husband had gone out side to come to her and sarcastically ask if she had gotten some stuff from somewhere else. She said yes and he told her to make sure to tell them thanks when they write out her check. Well at lest to me this says since you bought from somewhere else and not me you are fired. Not to mention that all of this took place in front of other customers. But I do believe that I heard her tell her husband about it outside when we where leaving and he said that she was done working there and that he would not let her go back. I saw them get into the vehicle to leave but the husband started to get out again. By that time though the store was closing and the doors where locked. Other than that really anything you get from them is at your own risk. If you think about getting a dog from them don‘t it is not a guarantee that the dog does not have anything and what the breed or breeds are. Even though the owner tells his customers that he does not get his dogs from puppy mills, he runs an ad in the Sunday paper saying that they buy puppies. They have some puppies in there right now (being he is buying just about whatever people bring in) that are basically mutts. They are something like three different breeds and he is or was trying to sell them for like $400.

Most of the employees there are good people. But the owner does not want people to know what really goes on with the animals because of what he wants done there, animals are lost due to death but basically carelessness and neglect on the owner’s part. The employees try there best with what they have but if the boss man doesn’t agree then it doesn’t happen. I myself will not be going back there anymore even though it is right next to me I will happily drive clear across SA to Wolf Reef or any other place before I go back to this place. I can’t stand people that are so money hungry and ignorant that they lie and treat employees like that and worst of all neglect the animals they are trying to sell.

Sorry this is so long but I just had to vent and warn people about this business. Any one else has anything to add. Please do so and warn others about this place.

My experience has been pretty much the same. I always stop in at the one in New Braunfels to look, but never buy anything anymore. The employees are always very nice. But everything I have ever bought there for my aquarium died. And they are very quick to tell you that there is NO GAURANTEE!

I try to stick to the MAAST sponsors.
