Thread: Ballast ?

    Default Ballast ?

I am wanting to add some lights into my tank so I dont have to run my halides just to be able to look at my tank in the evening

So... My brothers fixture has a workhorse ballast in it and when we looked it up, it can handle a 72inch bulb of any type, T5 to t12. I looked up that ballast and they are pretty darn cheap to get. His endcaps got wet and those had to be replaced. When it came down to it, I was surprised at how easy it was to wire them up and then just stick the endcaps up. Walla.

Is there a reason why I would not want to buy two of these ballast to run two 72inch lights for $30 each instead of buing a 660 icecap for $130? This new 180 is costing me an arm and a leg to get set up and the list just keeps growing and growing and growing.

    Default RE: Ballast ?

Work Horse 5 is up to 130 watts($30) and the seven is up to 220 watts ($50) So if your going to run 2 VHO 6's you are going to need two of the work horse seven's. If you switch over to T5HO's then you can run 4 54w's on one ballast, that is what I did.
