GM I hear what you are saying but think of it like this, I'm getting a 400g tank early this year. I have only 26" of stand to work with. If I can get a Deltec that fits in the stand rated for a 500+g tank or if I buy a GIANT Octopus for a 100g tank.......... So yes it does make a difference to some of us. The one I was looking at was rated for like a 150g tank and would not fit under my stand. Many other well designed skimmers that are much more efficient will.

Here's another possibility that might help if you can do it. You could always run two skimmers that could fit under your stand, of course then you can have to deal with two pumps etc.

Cliff I have all sorts of possiblities. I was only pointing out that the Octopus skimmers are very large for their rated size. to me, IMO, that is a sign of not being very efficient. That was my only point. As in, I'd rather have a more efficient, more compact skimmer under my stand. Nothing more than that. It's not my problem since I won't be buying one. I just wanted to point out that they seemed ridiculously large and that could be a major deciding factor for this buyer. I was only making the comparison to my tank to make a point that indeed size can be a factor.
