Thread: algea on sand

    Default algea on sand

Every couple days I get a little build up of algea on the sand. It's only on the parts that are in the light, not on any rocks. I have a sleeper goby that is always hard at work but unable to keep up. The thing is, I don't see this problem with other tanks that have been set up for around a year. I use RODI water and test it before each use. Any way to get ride of this?

    Default RE: algea on sand

I was having this problem at about the 5-6 month range for my tank. I threw a sand sifting star in there and the sand has looked pristine since. I know that he is not eating the algae (pods is his diet of choice I believe), but he does a really good job of keeping it stirred up (with help from a couple dozen nassarius) so I never see the algae at least. I had tried a queen conch before the star and never saw the results I was hoping for.
