Thread: Insect control question

    Default Insect control question

I am moving into a newly constructed house a few miles away. It already has some small "sugar" ants inside. I will also be bringing several boxes from storage that I know have some small bugs inside. I want to spray my house and the boxes with a pesticide.

My plan is to put everything in the house and garage, minus the aquariums and food items. These will still be in the old house until after I spray.

I have no idea how to do this. I have heard of bombing a house but I dont know what this means. What do I need and where do I get it? I live and will still be living on the NW side of SA. I am very handy, do I need to hire a professional.

At your new place, go organic!

As for "bombing" go to the store and purchase bug bombs. Get as many as needed for the square footage. All you have to do then is open the top to the can, get out and close door. Leave for the amount of time specified.

Being in the Austin hill country in a brand new home myself (8 months old) I had to deal with bugs as well (I also had the issue of scorpions in the house on mult. occasions).
I chose to use an all purpose killer that was the only known pesticide that kills scorpions as well.
It's called CY-KICK CS and can be found at most chemical supply shops (like self-chem).
the ~$45 bottle lasts a really long time. I spray about once a month and haven't seen a spider/ant/scorpion in my house in a long time.
I take care to cover my tank and turn off the skimmer if I spray inside (which i've only done once since external spraying seems to be doing the trick).

Organic...., I didnt think of that. I compost, and feed the soil and keep the garden pests out organically. I am going to try mother earth news. If that doesnt work, The CY-KICK CS will be my next step. Thanks.

    Diatomaceous Earth
is made up of the silicate shells of microscopic sea creatures called diatoms.
With it's microscopic razor sharp edges, diatomaceous earth when spread in your garden or field physically kills and deters slugs without the use of harmful poisons.
It can be dusted or sprayed as a control for most leaf eating insects and is used to deter slugs and snails.
Natural DE makes a very effective natural insecticide. The insecticidal quality of DE is due to the razor sharp edges of the diatom remains. When DE comes in contact with the insects, the sharp edges lacerate the bugs' waxy exoskeleton and then the powdery DE absorbs the body fluids causing death from dehydration. Said more simply, DE kills insects by drying then up.

"FYI": Di-a-tom-a-ce-ous Earth sold for swimming pool filters is ineffective for insect control because it has been heated and chemically treated. It won't kill insects and it is very dangerous to breathe.
