Thread: 1/4 hp Chillers?

    Default 1/4 hp Chillers?

Do they: add heat to a room that you would notice, noisey compared to the aquarium, what is the increased cost in your electrical bill($30 a month)? My 200 gal tank runs from 80 to 83 daily. I would like to get that down to 78. The room temperature is 78.
Or should I just add another fan, put up with the 83 degrees and save my money.
PS my wife can't chime in on this one.

What size room is your tank in? I have a 1/10th hp in my bedroom and it keeps things kinda toasty with the door shut. I have it in a closet (doors removed) and it keeps my shirts "straight out of the dryer" warm all the time ;)

24' x 24' Thanks you answered my question. That's what I was afraid of adding more heat to my living room to make my AC run more. I will just do the Gary thing and add more fans on timers.

Yeah I would do the fans first. Cheaper. Cooler. You can always add a chiller later if it does not work out well. I've wanted to try a chiller in a larger room to see how much it would effect the room temperature. It might be a bit noisy when its on and off.

I have a 1/4hp Current USA Prime In-Line and I can attest that it will add some heat to the room. I have placed it next to a window that I leave open a crack with a small desk fan blowing the hot air from the chiller out the window. This seems to have mostly solved the problem. As far as noise-- it really does not make much more noise than just the normal background from the overflows dumping into the sump. Cost on the electric bill seems to be about $25-35.
