Take a look it this photo. This is the heater I got from mikeyboy. It has some pretty deep pits on it - should I be concerned? Is there a way to repair it? Like some JB Weld?

Silicone might be a better way to fill the pits. It'll bond to glass and is heat resistant.

I'd worry more about the controller than the tube. I had a few won II's go bad. One switched always on , 2 switched to always off. This is both the dial and digital controls...
