    Default Protien Skimmers

I have this built in protien skimmer built into my sump. But it dosn't do real good job. I was wondering if any one had any suggestion for an external Protien skimmer. For a 105 gallon tank. 8)

what are you willing to spend?

You could contact one of several people in the area that can build you a custome skimmer, Matt and Pete come to mind fist. after that, Precision Marine, you can get'em through CB PETS. personally, I would get one from Matt. wonder if he has finished his recirculating skimmer prototype...

What are you keeping in your tank?

There are dozens of skimmers that could work.

Killed my first coral in 1991, have tried to do better since. Always tricky.

I did finish the recirculating skimmer; Felipe used it on one of the systems at Fin-addict until someone bought it. It worked well, I'll tweak the design for the next one. The issue with those skimmers is that the venturi that comes with the sedra pump is not so great. I'm thinking about using a beckett in conjunction with a needlewheel pump on the next one. It's really hard to beat a well designed beckett skimmer for overall performance IMO. The needlewheel skimmers are popular because they're cheap and easy to manufacture and because they don't use a lot of power. Beckett skimmers, to work well, need a stable pressure pump, and that's not cheap. With the right pump, though, they really do the job.

I will suggest five brands to look into GEO,Deltec,Euro-Reef,ASM ,and this might sound odd to menchion this but the coralife Super Skimmer.

I use a Euro-reef CS5 on my 92 corner tank and have been very impressed with it. You would have no regrets with this skimmer. I run mine "wet" and fill the cup almost every day.
