    Default Filter Q's

What would be a great filter for a 75 gallon tank? A wet/dry, Sump w/ fuge. Any help would be nice. Also looking for MH light for one also.

Is it reef ready? I'm pretty sure everyone will say sump w/fuge if you have the room. Mainly because the sump will allow you to get a good skimmer.

Lighting depends a lot on what you are going to keep in the tank. If you are going to do SPS or clams then a couple of 175 / 250 MH 10k xms would go great on a 75. Do you have a hood for it? You need about 8 to 12 inches of room between the bulb and the water. You can build one or go with pendants.

Don't forget that MH builds a lot of heat. You need fans or a chiller. Another reason to go sump. I have a fan blowing in my sump and 2 in the canopy.

I want mixed reef. I have a 29reef now but with 2x65 Orbit PC's. I just wanted to know cause my girlfriend is now getting into it and she wants to help me get a 75 or 100g. And I told her I would look up some price.

You can either build a sump out of a pre-existing glass tank, like a 30 gallon long, or custom build one out of acrylic. I've done both and am currently using the custom built acrylic route. Its so much nicer because I was able to maximize the usable space in my stand. The more water the better!!

You could use that 29 as a sump for a 75 or 90. It would work well. If you are tight on budget, some people use rubbermaid containers as a sump. You can get 2 and chain them... one can be the fuge and the other can hold the skimmper return pump. There are lots of options.

Ya ive seen that but i want to go with something that look great. On my 29 I have a wet/dry and my nitrates were always going up to 20ppm in a week. I went to Alamo and talked to Chris and he sold me just a acrylic box. He cut me two holes for some bulkhead and I put in two pieces of plexy glass one with baffles. It didnt fit under the tank so I put it behind it. I tested it yesterday and it read 0 on everything. I like that set up, but just wanted to know what was the best filteration out there, thanks

I think my 100 gal is the same width as a 75, just longer, I put a 50 gal rubbermaid tub under it, with a 30 gal acrylic sump/wet dry on a stand in it. The overflow from the tank comes down into the wet/dry, then flows down into the rubermaid.
