ALthough I own a dell and love it, I have to agree with you on the flakey mouse pad witecap. It has happened to me before and its a PITA. THat is the only thing that bothers me, other than that, I love Dells.

We have Dell Inspirons from the 2000 series all the way up to the 6000 series, we also have a few Latitude D810's and they all work pretty good, even though they are used as dekstops and run 24 X 7. Every once in a while Dell will run a 30% off laptop coupon allowing you to get one at a steal. Checkout www.hot-deals.org or signup to Dell's mailing list.
The one I used was a d505

**** Ross, you coulda bought my Alienware!!!
IMO, you are just paying for the Alienware name. The one I had was ok but definatly not worth the money. I would look at Dell, they have reasonably prices Laptopa and a good warranty as well.
Sean
Sweet thanks for all the info guys!

if u end up going w a dell, google "dell coupon codes" and u can find some really good deals. another good way to get a good price is to buy from the K-12 site. they offer some really good discounts for students and faculty.
