More cleaning tips needed *filter sock

I bought a few filter socks from donny, when I picked them up he gave me some tips about keeping them wet at all times but I didn't ask about cleaning.

In the past I've always just rinsed in the sink but that's not doing the job with the 100 micron socks. It barely puts a dent in them.

whats the best way to clean these?
can I put them in the dish washer or clothes washer, boil them????

I think this is a polypropylene sock with a 100 micron weave. Very heavy duty with a plastic ring at the open end... any info would be helpful!!!

ohhh no... dont tell me I've stumped everyone with this one!!! I got a filter sock thats overflowing with crud and no idea how best to clean it. Come on masters of the detritis help a botha out!!!

Buy a clean sock ... didn't your Mother tell you to always wear clean socks :P

I can't help, that's why I avoid them - never could get them clean "Like New". Best I could suggest is turn it inside out and blast it with the strongest garden sprayer you can find????

I bought about 25 of these filter socks about 2 months ago. Best way to clean them is to throw them in the washer with some bleach, (I put it on the delicate cycle just so it doesnt mess up the plastic ring). It doesn't get them brand new, but they clean up real nice. Just lay them out to dry afterwards, all the bleach will either rinse out in the cycle or it will leave the sock once it dries. Been doing it for 2 months and it works great!

Here's what I do.

I flip them inside first and pick out all the pods in them and give the fish a treat. Then I rinse them in the sink. and get as much of the "gunk" out of them. Then I put them in a 5 qt. ice cream bucket with water and a few capfuls of bleach. I let it soak for about two days then rinse it out again and hang it up to dry on the back porch. I use some clothes pins to attach them to a clothes hanger to dry. The sun will deactivate any residual chlorine. I have two sets of filters and I alternate them in this way.

Donny told me to never let these dry... is it possible that they are different than what you guys are using?

I dont know if its better but I know it worked!!!

I have an attachment that goes on my hose that looks something like jacks (jack n the box) hat. Its a very simple nozzle that makes a strong stream of water. It cleaned the filter sock in a couple of minutes to nearly new.

Maybe its a good idea to do this between washings???

I do the flip inside out and throw in the washer with bleach thing....works great.
