Spent the weekend at Red Bluff lake which is in west tx between Orla, Tx and Carlsbad, Nm. Fishing there sucks mainly because there are millions of ghost shrimp in that lake now and the fish have more food than they need so seldom bite a hook. Not many fish in there to begin with either. Anyways the Pecos river feeds this lake and used to be home to a minnow called Comanche Pup Fish. Fishermen introduced non-native sheepshead minnows into the pecos river and they have bred with the pup fish creating a hybrid sheepshead. I catch dozens and dozens of them in a minnow trap and the bigger ones are maybe 3" long or more and the little buggers will live up to and over 48hrs on a trotline. If you hook em in the tail just right and a fish dosent eat them the suckers can be turned loose and they swim away. Sucks that a non-native fish has screwed up the eco-system so to speak but the things rock for fish bait! I also catch tons of ghost shrimp that I freeze and turn into fish and coral food.
