Default Amiracle Wet/Dry SL50 question, for my 29 gallon

so school is out and i am bored and i was given an Amiracle wet/dry filter SL50 but never used it because i was afraid of flooding and all that, stuff

right now i am testing it on my old 15 gallon tank and it is working , suprsingly, I know and testing if the power goes off the tank will keep suction and will stop after a certain point, then when the power comes back on it will start up again. ok so thats one test,

but what if i lost suction my pump will still keep on pumping until the sump is dry and ruining my pump so what do i do to fix that problem?

hopefully it will be used on my 29 gallon, its on a 45 inch. lift (from the ground, i added 3 inches for a return), also what would be the best returm rate, 5X ior 10X tank volume, and i know it loses GPH as water is pumped up so should i think about he GPH at 45 inches or just what it pumps period with no lift?

anyone have any concerns i may need to worry about?
Lots of questions i know, but i will be greatly apreccitted

What kind of overflow do you have. Your pump would only run dry if your overflow drain clogs. In that case your tank would overflow too.

I run a wet/dry on my 75. It's loud. The whole house complains about the noise. Mine is an oceanic that fits in my sump.

    Good luck with it!

I had an SL50 before and if you have the overflow box that has the separation in the back you should be fine. You should never loose suction on that u-tube unless you pull it up and above the water line.

On a tank that size I'd go with like a Mag5 as the return if you are using internal. That would be close to if not a little over 10X turn around with that sort of head pressure. Just average any pump out to a 4' head since you are at 45 inches and you should be fine in finding a good pump.

allright so i did a dry fit under the tank and it fits, but i am thinking i might just buy a clear plastic rubbermaid container and put the SL50 in it and cutting some of it off or drill holes to add more water volume, to make a refugium then glueing a piece of acrlylic around the pump and keep the water level high enough to flow into the pump area, so sand and all the refugium stuff does'nt go in, is this a good idea or should i not put acrylic around the pump just incase the water level in the sump drops down and no water can get in ie running the pump dry, i am trying to think of everything that could go wrong to prevent any major damage.
    thanks
