Default Spewing Zoa's (Bit Of Assistance Needed!)...

I bought some pretty purple with silver center zoanthus on Sunday at Fin-Addict. I have been watching them closely and have not yet mounted them. They are in a containment basket (plastic with holes) in my aquarium. Here is the strange part...

I come home today and they are spewing something from their mouth's. It almost looks like... well... fish poop is coming out of them! Whats going on here?

I tested my water parameters and they are good (amm=0, trite=0, trate=10 and ph=8.2). I am not dosing any kalk (havent't for the past two weeks). Can someone tell me what is happening, why and how I can avoid this? Also, are they destined to die?

    Please help!

all photosynthetic corals will also spit out zooanthalea from time to time. I would imagine with the stress of moving to their new home this could very likely be whats going on.

    what color is the poo?

Even under normal conditions, there is always a regular expulsion or digestion of "old" or dysfuctional zooxanthellae. Such regeneration is not bleaching, and the observation of strands of brown zooxanthellae being emitted from the a coral are not neccessarily indicative of a bleaching event. (E. Borneman)

I'd say you had a small bleaching event, but it could also just be time for your zoo's to renew his supply of zooxanthellae. One way or the other a water change and carbon couldnt hurt!!!
