    Default Daughter crashed Nano-Cube

****it, ****it, ****it...seems like this kind of thing always happens when I'm out of town.

Our 3-year-old dumped half a canister of flake into my Nano-cube yesterday because the fish were "very, very hungry." Deb removed what she could but a lot dissolved. I guess more stayed in the tank than she realized cause now everything's dead. Peppermint shrimp, both neon gobies, both hermits and one of two ocellaris have succumbed. We haven't tested levels but the dead livestock speaks for itself. I'm still out of town, so Deb's having to deal with it herself. She's trying to rescue anything still alive and put it in the quarantine tank, but I'm not very hopeful.

I probably won't be setting this cube up again. I've had to keep the little one away from it the whole time it's been in place because she can't keep her hands out of it. I don't think a tank this small is well-suited to being in a house with toddlers. I have about 10-15 lbs of live rock virtually covered with zoos, palys and shrooms. I may try to rescue some of these but it's iffy...might have some rock to give away if anyone wants to rescue it and try to keep the polyps alive.

Don't get rid of it! Just do a major water change let it go through a cycle, corals are tough at least the ones you mentioned. Kids will be kids, I know I have three. I am sure others will send in there ideas

It's really my fault for leaving the food out...seems this little one is always a step or two ahead of what I expect. I might move the cube into my office, which is a no-children zone, and set it up for a mantis. I dunno...too angry to think about it right now.

The only idea i have for you, besides what alton said, is if you don't have a tank to put them in, i can hold them. I live near you and can hold them til you stabalize again.

Hey don't feel bad my four year old did the same thing to my tank right before we moved. It was also my mistake as well I always would let him feed with me i would put some in his hand and let him drop it in. Well he thought he would help out and guess what happen! Live and learn the new tank will be set up and all food wil put in a cabinet in the kitchen where hopefully he won't get into it there. I hope everything goes well and sorry for your loss. I lost a powder Brown tang that I had for three years and two clowns along with about five hermits and 12 snails oh well it was my fault of sorts.

Dang dude sorry to hear about that! Kids can be pretty brutal on tanks while meaning no harm. GF had 4yr old daughter, woke up to find coke cans, wash rags, milk, and cereal all had been dumped in my tank but luckily it was 55g tank and not a nano. I lost fish and some others even after doing a giant water change. Now the doors on my hood and the bottom cabinet are all protected with little padlock. Best of luck getting it back going again.
