    Default MH Pendant questions

ive been looking into buying a mh pendant for my 29 gallon http://hellolights.com/ocli25hqiame.html
so my question is has any one used this product? if so is it awsome or not worth the money

is the pendant im thinking about buying over kill?

the reason ive decided that mh lighting is possibly the way to is that my 110w power compact unit isnt cutting it, i have almost no growth with my softies are forever stretching towards the light, i dont plan on keeping any lps and sps so maybe mh isnt really the best idea

or should i go with http://hellolights.com/362xcoluaqde.html

the main thing that bugs me is the price of the mh bulbs and the massive amounts of heat generated by said bulbs and if i decided to continue going with power compacts i know i wouldnt have to deal with all that heat and said insane price, pluss im assuming if i upgrade my lights i'll probably get the a decent amount fo growth from my softies

Is there such thing as over kill?
I'd go to one of your lfs and look at them. Most carry the coralvue products. That way you can LOOK at it and decide what is best.

I just saw the size of your tank, missed that one.

    I would take the pc's out & run like 6 T5s. Or add like 4 T5s to the pc's.

With a tank that size I would go with T5's in addition to your PCs you are running now. MH on a 29 gallon tank will give you lots of heat and if you can control it with fans your evaporation will be pretty high - do you have a method of replacing evaporated water? You can probably run t5's off your old PC ballast as well with some new endcaps. Later on down the raod if you go bigger or decide you want predominatly SPS you can use the T5's for supplemental actinics.

I ran a 250 DE on a 29 for a while. I loved it! I did it for a few clams. Used a clip on fan for heat and top-off every evening with 1 1/2 gal or so.

This is a pretty good deal for t5 retro in 24"

Im sure if you added those your softies would love it. I finally went to MH after 15 years (due to big deep tank upgrade) and although I love them I would still use T5/ VHO on a smaller tank with softies/LPS.

I'd go for it if you can put a fan on to help cooling. Besides, that way when you are ready to upgrade your tank you already have at least one of the fixtures ready to go. :-D
