Thread: Kalk Amount?

  1. #1

    Default Kalk Amount?

I wanted to get some comparison data from others on the amount of Kalk powder others are using in say a 1 week period of time?

Granted I have a large volume system (call it 600g), but I seem to be dumping in lots of Kalk and still not driving my PH, Alk, or Ca off the scale. I am dumping in about 6-8 tbls every other day or so (when I see PH dropping near or below 8.0). When PH is 8.1+, Ca is sitting around 475, and Dkh at 10-11.

What are other's Kalk usage and what's your water volume and Ca demand levels?

    Thx - Steve

lol, 6-8 tablespoons aint squat to a system of that size, start thinkning in cupfulls, plus you might wanna think about getting your levels where you want them first then maintain them with kalk.

Thanks Jim! Everytime I get into a newbie area for me I ease into it ... I'm probably too conservative!

My plan was to get the levels where I wanted and then ease back, but I just didn't have a yardstick for comparison!

... I think I will go order a bigger tub of Kalkwasser now, does it come in 55g barrels :-D

Plus, won't your needs increase as the corals grow? Heh...with that kind of volume, you may just want to become a Kalkwasser stock-holder. Yep, I foresee a jump in sales for them. ;)

I would've started out small too though...better to under-dose than over.

Try using this calculator. It works great for calcium and alk.
