Thread: better sump?

  1. #1

    Default better sump?

I'm considering ditching my tidepool sump and using a 20 gallon rubbermaid tub.

    Any thoughts?

I know I need some 1/2 inch plastic tubing to extend my skimmer intake as the tub is fairly higher than the tidepool. Where is the best place to buy this stuff as well as a connecting adapter/sleeve?

Plumbing issimple and you just need to make sure its sealed. DIY can be done with just about anyting you can find at a home store. An example would be male and female plumbing parts with a home made ruber gasket. Drilling the sides are easy so look to a feed store for the tub.

Thanks Guys...heading there in the AM. I figure 8 inches lower will drop it far enough.

make sure that rubbermaid tub is round. if you buy a rectangle it will spead on the sides as the water table rises in the tub. been there and done that, although they are cheap. if you end up buying a rectangle, before drilling holes in it, fill it up with water and let it set for an hour or so and see if that's what you want or if your ok with the results. just trying to help. good luck

I have used buckets of sand to keep the sides of rubbermaid tubs from spreading out. Works great for short term if you have some space. Not so good for under stand use.
