I absolutely agree! A beast like yours may be in my future, but first going to go the route of evaporative cooling and alternating photoperiods, with the 13HP installed to "Take the edge off".

Let me know how the beast works? So, how much was the advertised price?

    WOW :o that ain't cheap!

BTW: Watts = Volts * Amps

    2/3HP: 110V * 9A = 990W
    1HP: 220V * 7A = 1540W

The 1HP will most likely run less, but your overall operating cost will likely be the same. The same amount of energy is required to pull the energy (Heat) out of the water regardless of how fast it is removed.

The 1HP will definately have a lower duty cycle, so it will last longer and provide the savings in the long run.

    ... Nice piece of equipment!

It is only set at 60 in the 14' x 8' fish room where the tank is, not the viewing room. I have tried to set it higher or to only run it some during the day but the temp skyrockets.

This is the same victor that made Blake's chiller. He has just made it less industrial looking now.
ah I see, you have on of them fancy setups
