I went looking at scuba shops didnt seem cheap to me, but I could be wrong. I ended up going to Academy and got a set of fins, mask and snorkel for next to nothing. Not bad if you are only going to use it a few times.

Dan, I'll lone you some stuff if you want. I shop online for the scuba gear, but you'll do fine snorkeling with academy stuff.

If you were in S.A. I could help you, I go diving alot so I know where most of the shops are, but If your just going to go snorkelling you might just get some stuff from academy and that would work fine. However, what I found has worked well is (depending on where you go) to simply get the stuff there. If its like a resort town e.x. key west, etc. or something they will usuallly have a better selection than any place here would. Sometimes, they will even have better prices because they have more competetion. Where are you going snorkelling anyways?
If anything just cannot go wrong, it will anyway.
Good point....

going to cancun, but am taking a day trip to couzemel.
my trip to cozumel I checked many of the dive shops and their prices were about what they are at the local shops in SA. I did what Tim did and got my stuff online, mind you that it is dive quality gear. If you are planning to just snorkel and never move up to diving and dont want to spend alot of money then stuff at Academy would be fine. You could probably find the same type of gear in Mexico but I think you would probably pay just about as much here in the states.
