    best way? vinegar? baking soda? Microwave? sandblaster?

    Dissamble the pump, then soak the parts in 50% vinegar for about an hour. Clean the parts with a tooth brush, re-assemble, and test it in a bucket.

    You could scrape some off in the tank releasing spores that will attach and grow.
