    Default Somebody's pickin...

I have a Yellow Watchman Goby I added to an established tank about 1-1 1/2 weeks ago. I noticed today that he has a good size "bite" out of his back above his tail. He's eating, but I'm wondering if 1) Could the bite heal on its' own...2) Is he now a target? I doubt very seriously I could catch him even tho I have a "Q" tank.

Don't know what has picked on him....this is what is in the tank:
1 Regal Tang, 1 Sm Yellow Tang, 1 Sm Mandarin, 2 Blk/Wht Clowns, 1 Orchid Dottyback, 1 Flamehawk and 1 Purple Firefish. Also 2 Harlequin Serpent Stars added about 2 weeks ago. 2 "hijacker" crabs (sm), 1 "hijacker" pistol shrimp, and 1 Peppermint shrimp, lots of snails and "3" blue legged hermits.

    Anybody?

i would guess the bluetang, clowns, or the hawk> in my experiences those have been some agressive fish, but tis different with every tank

I had a problem once with a yellow tang taking a couple of bites out of a scopas tang.

The yellow tang is the baby of the group - the blue regal will pick at the yellow from time to time - but nothing serious - peckin order only - think the bite will heal or is he a target now??

Only time will tell. Do the clowns host somewhere that the goby may have gotten close to? I know when I get to close to the anemone my clowns live in the biggest one will come out and bite my hand. He is getting to the point where it hurts.

He is still hanging in there. The bite looks no worse...If this was a pecking order...it was a heck of a bite. It may have been the hawk...I think the Goby tried to "settle" in the flamehawk's area...he has now "settled" on the opposite side of the tank from where he originally was. And still eating - coming out front to eagerly eat.

Sherri, My hawkfish was a mean little fella, he took out a Flame Angel and harrased a clown trigger.

I had a lawnmower blenny almost kill my yellow watchman, he was to the point where I just grabbed a net and scooped him up without and fight at all. I put him a 2gal hex with some a peppermint shrimp sand, rocks and coral from my main tank and he did just fine. All his fins were beat up but they all came back, it did take him about a week to start eating again though. Good luck with yours...

BTW, Jose the flame hawk is doing great, and is getting fat and starting to grow a little I think. He hasnt shown any agression in my tank, but then again, he was the last fish in too. Thanks again

I've had the flamehawk for about a year now....very curious little fish. Everytime I'm either working in the tank or sitting looking at it, he is right there staring & watching. Quite entertaining fella. I haven't seen too much aggression from him in the past, but he does own the right side of my tank. The Goby is now on the left side. LOL Tonight, the Goby was letting one of the cleaner shrimp clean him, but not aggressively working on the bite. He looks good and have been watching to see if the flamehawk is after him. He isn't that I see, but I guess he'll be OK as long as he stays on the left side of the tank!
