Thread: lion fish with cloudy eyes

Default lion fish with cloudy eyes

I've had this antennata lion fish in my new tank for about 2 weeks now. I noticed yesterday that it is hiding and it has cloudy eyes. Also, its moving closer to the bottom instead of swimming. It eat yesterday and it can move quickly when it needs to, but overall it looks like its not moving like it did when I first got it.
I used turbo start and moved some filters from my established tank to get this tank cycled. My amonia and nitrites are zero and have not fluctuated. My nitrates are 10-20ppm (I'm getting ready to do a water change now). Do you think this is too high for lion fish? this is about what I used to have in my old FO tank and it didn't seem to bother my fish then.
Ph is 8.2 and dkh is 9.

maybe he was sick to began with and with the stress of a new tank are now showing the signs. if he is eating he should recover. check your temp. it's been weird lately. one day hot next day cold.

My temp ranges from 76 at night to 79 in the day. I have a heater set to 74 to prevent it from dripping too low. I aslo noticed that his lower fins look like they are shaking slowley. Not like the quick shake when a fish has ich, but more like a shivver. Does this sound like a common disease for lions?

for years all i wanted in a salt water tank was a lion, so I did ton's of research on them... What type of lighting do you have? It may be to much for this fish, they are primarily nocturnal, and like to hide in caves, if your not giving it a shady spot you may cause blindness in it.
"Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind." ~ Jack Handey

I have lots of caves for him. I also have the lights on a timer as follows:
    8:00pm - 11:00pm 15W actenic
    12:00pm - 10:00pm 30W 50/50

I don't think the lights are too strong for him.
