Thread: Update on my 29 gallon Japanese style garden nano

Default Update on my 29 gallon Japanese style garden nano

I moved my nano from a 20 long to a 29 two months back. Have things fairly stable now and am starting to move some corals over. I am trying to recreate some of the stunning semi-minimalist tanks I've seen in Japan - still have some sorting to do but it's coming along and thought I'd share some pics.

    Tank specs:

    29 gallon tank
    2x 18watt t5 blue bulb
    1x 75 Watt Actinic VHO + 1 x 75 Watt Actinic white on IC 660 ballast
Aquaclear 500 filled with LR rubble for filtration
    Remora Skimmer with Mj1200

    25 lbs Live rock
    1 bag black calcite gravel

    Inhabitants:

    1 x Midas Blenny
    1 x Chalk Basslet
    1 x Sunburst Anthias
    2 x Scolymia
    1 x Lobophyllia
    2 x Trachyphyllia
    Capnella
    Ricordea Yuma
    Mis zooanthids and Mushrooms
    1 x Cycloseris
    1 x Hermit (C.elegans)
    3 x Black nassarius snails
    1 x Blastomussa
    Sinularia dura
    Green start polyps

things are really looking good. i'm thinking of starting me a little nano but tieing it to my main tank. is that cheating?

Just a plug - the large Green Scolymia, multi colored lobophyllia and the fungia/cycloseris were all form Austin aquariums.

The red/blue Scolymia is from Aquatek and the Blue blastomussa I got from Mary at Seacrop.

Most of the lps in here were moved here due to my copperband continually picking at them in my larger reef setup despite being very well fed.

    Default aquascaped freshies

I was recently in Singapore over the X-mas break and saw this aquascaped tank. It a freshwater but still amusing. Both pictures are the same tank.

psychfish - those are neat but kind of kitschy. I am still trying to retain some semblance of a natural presentation with my tank. We shall see as the mushrooms / zoos grow in.

Also looking for ideas for a coral I can place on the rock bommie to right if anyone has any ideas - thinking maybe some red sea xenia? The rock currently has some barnacles and phyllangia (maybe cladocora?) coral that have been alive on the rock for over a year so I don't want to get anything too agressive.
