Default New to MAAST. Can't wait to attend meeting.

    Hey everybody,

I have been reading this forum for quite some time. This is my first post. I really wanted to make December's meeting in San Antonio but wasn't able to. I was planning on joining at the meeting. I have seen great pics of members tanks on this forum and am looking forward to seeing some in person.

Is a meeting for January scheduled? I would be willing to host it at my house if you all can come up with at topic. I live in Davis Spring subdivision in Austin. This would give me a great opportunity to meet other people in the hobby and join MAAST.

My tank will be 2 years old at the end of January. I just upgraded my lighting to 3x250 13k HQI this past weekend from 600 watts PC and am looking forward to stocking clams and SPS. I just wish I could turn them on all day but it will take some time for my corals to acclimate to the intensity.

I have been at this on my own and don't really know anyone or haven't seen anybody's tank in person. Most of my knowledge has come from Books, MAAST forum, Reefcentral, and advice from LFS and I have appreciated the advice.

I will be posting my PC lighting for sale in the For Sale thread so if you need PC please look there.

Once again Thank you for hosting this forum and the advice I have received over the past two years.

Welcome to MAAST Torrey! Glad to hear that you have learned a lot from the MAAST Forums...Great bunch of people here with a lot of knowledge. As far as a meeting...as soon as it is worked up...I'm sure it will be posted...Just keep an eye out for it. From the sound of things...you seem to be doing pretty well on your setup so far. Great! Looking forward to meeting you at the next meeting if you can make it.

    Jim,

I saw a link to your tank on frags.org. Wow! It is sure beautiful. If you are ever offering a viewing I would like to see it in person. Once these halides are burned in and on a full timing schedule I am interested in any frags you might be selling.

    Regards,

    Torrey

Torrey, welcome to MAAST. You can view Jim's tank on the 31st because the meeting this month will be in Jim's home. You haven't upgraded the lighting that much so you should be just fine running those for 8 hours a day for a couple weeks and then bump them up to 10. I switched from 400 watts of VHO to 2-250w hqi/de halides a couple months ago on a frag tank and kept the lights on the same time cycle. The frags are actually getting better color now.
