Default Why should bioballs not be used?

Just curious. I am not using them, but have seen them used a lot.

if i am using them what is the proper way to take them out. do you remove all at one time or do you eventually get rid of them over a prolonged perioud of time

my tank is only 10 months old and i have never had an outbreak(knocking on wood) but the older my tank gets will i be more likely to have a problem. or just leave it alone because everything is great
