    Default Silent Filter for freshwater?

    Hi,
After two years without a freshwater tank, I'm going back to setting up a 55 gallons freshwater tank. Which kind/brand of filter do you recommend that can be absolutely silent (no water splashing, no vibration, no noise period!) Any body tried those Tetra Power filter with the heater cap yet?
Look at all those live rocks on the beach at Florida's state park!

Check this forum out, they have a "product review" section that has about 13 reviews on this filter...

The only good thing about tetra filter is the heater in the filter. I watched a tetra rep set one up. he couldn't even get it to work. I think that tetra filters suck. just my 2 cents

Since I live in an apartment, I have setup all of my aquariums within my bedroom. I have experimented with a few models of power and canister filters. I think almost all power filters are loud. I think the most quiet filter I have used, is the Eheim Professional II 2028 Canister Filter. I'm sure other models of Eheim are quiet, but this thing was awesome. At night I couldn't even hear it, since it was within the stand. I do have to say, after a while, I had to put the power filter (Emperor) back on because I missed hearing the water sound.

    Hi Vinh,

My wife uses internal filters in her planted tanks. She has a Fluval and 3 Eheims. These are absolutely quiet, don't take up much space and work well.

    Vinh -
I had the 75g planted tank for awhile. First I had two Emperor 400 hang on filters on the tank. As I know you like to have the tank very quiet, I would not recommend them although they are great filters. I then replaced them with the Eheim Pro II 2026 canister filter. It is very quiet and there is no water splashing sound. The main intake is underwater and the return is a spray bar that can be put underwater as well so you don't hear anything from that. I added the surface extracter to help suck the film/nutrients off of the surface and it made alittle noise, but not much. Excellent pump for media choices, ability to clean, and it is easy to prime (just push the top button down and it sucks in water). It did a great job at keeping the tank clean and I had a lot of fish in that tank!
