I agree with the other Dell positives. I just replaced my desktop (gave to the kids) with my laptop to save a little space. It's worked great since I've bought it for some school also.

I have a dell 2.4 ghz cpu, but the company messed up my order so many times. It was suppose to come with a 80gig and it came with a 40. Suppose to also come with Windows XP Pro, but ended up coming with home. Either or everything is fixed, but there customer service dept, along with sales SUCKS!

Henry, hands down DELL For laptops.
I've been running my Inspiron 4100 for a year now as my workstation and I did have one problem with the hard drive so I called them up and they shipped me a new drive but other then that the laptop's been excellent. This laptop is left on 24 X 7 in it's docking station and sees some road action once in a while.
We have multiple dell laptops and they've all been very good.
One thing though a 1 GHZ Desktop WILL be faster then a 1 GHZ laptop simply because of the Hard Drive speed. A laptops Hard Drive will only spin up to 4800 RPM when a Desktop can spin from 5400 - 15,000 RPM depending on IDE,SCSI and disk speed.
I've had nothing but excellent service with Dell but we do buy around 100K in systems a year with them so I guess we should expect that.

Go research on PcMag and use cdnet.com (I think that's it) for backup. There are some nice one's by Sony and Toshiba out now...personally I'd stick with a Toshiba.
I don't trust Dell...I've heard from too many techs who work for Dell that say their parts are cheaply made (for the most part) and get more complaints regarding technical issues than the comps they sell.
