Is Monster Cable brand component cable worth it?

Is "Monster Cable" brand component cable worth it? I paid $50 for the Progressive Scan DVD player. Look around, and the "Monster" brand component cable is $80. Somebody is in the wrong side of the business. LOL I bought all the above for my parent last Christmas, now it's my turn to buy it for myself. I'd hate to spend $80 for a single cable.

The RCA brand component cable from Wal-Mart is only around $23.

Come to think of it, I screw around and got BB to sell me the Monster Cable at a discoutn for $45, but that's still a lot of money for a single part.

For those thinking of setting up their Home Theater, make sure you buy progressive scan DVD player that are capable of adjusting the brightness from the DVD player itself. Many TV are too dark in their progressive scan output. If you adjust the TV, then the regular VCR, or cable channel will be too bright.

I use monster cable but I agre it's really expensive. If you're into setting up a really high end home theater than I think its the only way to go but if not I'd just get something that works. I don't really know if you set up two identical systems that a normal human would be able to tell the difference.

Can you rent the AVIA Home Theater calibration DVD at any Blockbuster around here? I can't afford $300 to $500 for a professional calibration, so I'll have to calibrate my TV myself.

Not sure about renting it, but the AVIA DVD is fairly cheap if you look around online. I have it laying around somewhere.... :grin:

ARe you going to sale your? if so, how much? Which version do you have? They have one that usually sales for $40, and another version that sale for $20.

I think they're going to come out w/ a new calibration DVD that can do 1080 and 720.

No plans to sell it but you're welcome to borrow it if you can't find it to rent.

I'm not sure which version since I haven't played with it in a while but I'll check when I get a chance.

After working in high end audio for years I can say it's better than most of the garden variety cable but it's not the end all be all of cable. For digital sources I used to like MIT and for analog I like Kimber - not sure if they are still around I haven't fiddled with that stuff since I sold my tube gear - you think reefs are expensive - they have nothing on a hi fi fix

If you want to see some stats Vinh go find the latest stereophile reccomended components issue - they usually will have ratings for a lot of the cables - much of it's subjective but good quality cables and interconnects are one of the cheapest ways to improve your system.

Get monster cable with gold threading, dont settle for that copper crap.
