    Default Hard Corals Dying

I have a friend who purchased several hard corals to be exact acroporas; these are of different colors and he believes that they are dying. He says that they are bleaching from several parts and to save them he must frag them. Some were new corals and some were old corals. In total there are five corals he believes very strongly that they have an infection. He also believes that this corals might need MH which he currently does not have. He has four VHOs two actinics and two white bulbs. Please tell me if this is a common thing to do because he wants to give them to me. I have never kept a hard coral in my life but I guess this is a great way to start. I have told him that once they recuperate or he gets his MH he can get them back. If he does give them to me (which seems to be the most possible thing); should I place them at the bottom of the tank due to the light difference between his tank and mine? Then slowly pick them up closer to the light? Thank you in advance to all who read this post.

Is it a slow death or a sudden onset? If it is sudden it could be RTN, and by the time you talk with him again they may be completely gone already. RTN only takes a day or two to finish an acro off. This would also transfer to your tank so you could have pretty white acropora skeletons also.

Just from a recent experience, my acropora was bleeching and I broke several pieces off to try and save something. As it turned out the main coral has regained all color and seems to be growing. The pieces I took off are also starting to grow and they are under VHO.
