Thread: Sponge rock...anyone use it in their tanks?

    Default Sponge rock...anyone use it in their tanks?

    I checked out this place that sellls all kinds of rocks, mostly for yard decor.

    well they had these rocks called Sponge Rock...they look like they'lll do well as base rock...so i went ahead and bought some but not sure if i can put them in the tank...anyone have experience with sponge rock??

    i wish i had a digi to take some pics of these rocks, they actually look pretty nice..kinda porous too..and the color is kinda reddish brown

    I can't say that I have ever heard of them before. If you find out let me know.. I am looking for a cheap alternative myself.

    Sounds like maybe pumice - a super porous, light volcanic rock. If it is you have to watch out because it can lower the pH of your tank - good for your tetras, bad for your reef fish.
