New lighting

In addition to plumbing my 60 gallon cube tank inline with my 75 this week I finally got my Reefoptix III pendants and bulbs (got the Aqualine Buschkes) from Premium Aquatics. Just curious about what I can use to hang them and still make it easy to adjust height? I wanted to start them off fairly high and gradually lower them over the next two weeks so my corals don't melt. Was thinking of just getting some 80lb test fishing line but not sure how I could rig it to move them easily.

Also I was told that DE HQI bulbs do best when they have a 'burn in' of 24-48 hours continous before being put on a timed cycle. Any validity to that?

as far as hanging is concerned, I went to HD and got black decorative chain link. it's rated at 40 lb working load and I have two per pendent. if you remember correctly I have those huge and heavy hamilton pendents.
The link is very very adjustable. I keep some 'opened' links laying around so I can raise and lower the lights when I work on the tank by adding that link and taking up a bunch of slack. takes about 2 seconds per pendent.

Brett - good idea , I'll go check HomeDespot and see what they have.

Josh - yeah halide in the tank would suck royally unless I'm trying to make reef gumbo or burn the house down. I think the fishing line is out

No offense, but I think the chain link look tacky. Steel wire would be more hideable. These steel wire are available at Lowes or HD. They are not adjustable and you'll have to cut them each time you want to re-adjust them.

You might call AquaTek, and ask them if the hanging kit for the Gieseman are adjustable or not. I don't know how much that cost, probably $20 to $30 per kit. You can mail order some Hanging wire for the Red Sea Prizm Power Compact Pendant from the manufacture in Houston. Cost is about $5 for each set plus shipping. These kit are semi adjustable. You might be able to find some adjustable steel wire kit from toy hobby stores, but I woulnd't know where to look.

If you find any adjustable steel wire kit, please let me know. I need a set for my Reef Optic myself.
