Looks like it might be some form of turtle grass....

Ben brought over some of my macro algae to put in your sump right? That stuff should do a good job outcompeting it for nutrients and eventually it should recess. Just keep getting it pulled back as much as you can until then.

If you had a strong population of herbivorous isopods & amphipods they would probably ravage that stuff. What are the chances I can have some next time you do some pruning David?

chris, your macro algae went in my new tank. i really need to set up a refugium and sump on this tank. you are welcome to as much as you want. if you are trying to get it to grow in your tank or refugium you can have a rock or two.

    Default Grass

Chris don't do it. This stuff looks cool, but it is prolific! The pictures don't show it in great detail. I am going to do some research now and see if I can't narrow it down.

    Default Problem Algae

OK, it is a filamentous, "hair", algae. It looks like bryopsis. Tangs will avoid it unless they are really hungry. To control it you will need lettuce nudibranchs(Tridachia crispata) bluish not the green ones, hermits, and urchins.
