Finished with the build and wanted to share the result. Having never had an aquarium before, I am amazed at what I was able to do using online forum resources for inspiration, knowledge and wisdom. This part was easy...actually learning to keep the fish and corals will be a whole other experience, I'm sure. +

I see a brass/ copper spigot on the water storage tank......
you know that copper does not work with reefs.

I appreciate you pointing that out. It WAS a pvc spigot in a bulkhead...until I broke it over-tightening it trying to stop a leak. I have the brass one there until I get the replacement. No one sells them local so I had to order it online.

The current water in that storage tank is constantly in touch with copper...
You should NOT use the water there for reef use until you get the pvc spigot and fill with new water.
Good luck

I didn't believe that deionized water could break down brass in a matter of days, but I don't want to take the chance of any leaching occurring. I'll take your advice and not use the water. Thanks for the guidance.

Sure! As a matter of fact my carpenter is a member, too. You can PM him at "Sierra_Bravo" ...but I don't think he's taking outside work! :D

I ordered my live rock and sand from Tampa Bay Saltwater and wasn't disappointed. I picked it up around lunchtime yesterday from the Southwest cargo terminal in San Antonio.

I placed everything in the tank and then gave it time to settle before trying to arrange it in the general shape I wanted.

There were lots of small hermits and snails hiding away in the sand and rock. We also found three gorilla crabs and a porcelain crab. I haven't heard any mantis or pistol shrimp. Unfortunately it looks like we lost all of the feather dusters and at least half of the sponges that were on the rock.

This morning the tank had cleared up considerably.

We received "part" of what I think was a brittle star:

And my daughter wanted to make sure I included a pic of the procelain crab, which apparently now goes by the name "Bob"...

In a few weeks they'll send Part 2 of my order which will include the other half of the rock and lots of critters and goodies.

They have some really good stuff. I follow D2Mini on R2R, and he swears by it. He got some really good hitchhikers and almost instant cycling with his tank. Looking good man!!!

Looking great! When I set up my wife's tank I used the LR from KP Aquatics which is on the ocean side. It was like setup one day, and stock the next with no cycle. I did end up with two gorrilla crabs, one mantis(gave away), 3 red emerald, and one pistol which still lives in my fuge.
