Okay....I know how to INCREASE carbonate harness/alkalinity, but how do I LOWER it? The pH is 8.3, but the carbonate hardness / alkalinity is 30dKH (alkalinity 10.72 meq/L).
How much does it matter in a reef tank (fish and corals)?

Are you sure the test result is correct? What kit are you using? 30 dKh is a pretty crazy number to have. You'd have to accidentally overdose a ridiculous amount of alk supplement to even achieve that. Was there an overdosing event of some kind?

FWIW, muriatic acid would lower your alk but I don't recommend doing that until perhaps the test result is verified.
