Okay guys I am having trouble actually deciding if I want to go bottomless or not. I would like to know some pros and cons of both. My idea is to put 100 pounds of Black Hawaiian Sand down. Please any and all input would be nice.

Short and sweet answer.... Add sand. Helps with bio diversity. Limits pressure points on tank floor. Allows you to keep wrasses which will come in handy to keep pest under control(pymid snails, bristle worms, etc). In my opinion it also looks better. There's plenty out there about some systems being too clean. I will always be a fan of sand.

A good alternative is cutting board plastic to relieve pressure points and adhesive a bare bottom look

Dude, go with sand or you'll be the guy adding it down the road creating a cycle.

My only caution with black sand...all the types I've seen/used have been magnetic. Get to close with your mag float cleaner and you have a recipe for a scratched tank

I really want black sand but have mix opinion about it. Some people swear by it and well others HATE it.

Personally I would go white because it looks more clean and gives a good contrast. It also allows light to reflect off the sand.

From what I've heard you lose a minimal amount of light reflection from the bottom, but I haven't heard of it making or breaking a tank. I've never been a fan of it, until I saw Francis tank when we did his interview.

I will never use anything but black again. The back pane of glass is also black in my 65 and the colors of my anemones and fish jump out at you. White sand carries into the light colored rock and washes all of the other colors out in my opinion.

I have Black Sand and like it so much better than white. It gives so much more contrast. I can't post pics but here is a link to my postings and pics on a Facebook group.

It is a mix of black sands (different brands) I recently added 60 lbs of "CaribSea Instant Aquarium Tahitian Moon Reef (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21432&prodid=43198&catid=3)" and really like the look now. The white specks in mine came from a bit of white sand I got from another tank to get mine going. Great way to seed your tank. If your interested we can trade like 5-10lbs of sand to seed your tank.
