Which aquarium manufacturer to use?

My new house will be built around the May/ June time frame and the wife said I can upgrade my tank if I get rid of my FW planted tank. I currently have a 100 gallon that is about 4" x 2" and 2" high. Seeing the latest TOQ, I really want to incorporate some aspects that I saw in his tank into my new one. The main thing is to incorporate my acrylic frag tank into the sump area of the tank. To do this, I will need to get a slightly longer tank, about 5"4' longer.

My question to the group is:

I really like the PVC bottom idea of AGE aquariums but I've also seen some nice looking Planet Aquarium tanks as well.

What are everyone's thoughts

Justin find a LFS that you are going to work with and know what they are going to do to protect you. Also look at the warranty!! Some will only issue a warranty if you buy there stand. If you stay in the norm of 6' x 2' x 2' most companies will produce a quality product. Go beyond that and it becomes a bigger issue. Looking at your numbers I am not sure if you add the first to the second set of numbers you may come up with 8' 29" x 24"?

Thanks Alton. I was thinking of the same thing as well and was planning on stopping by a couple of places to shop for prices. From my understanding, most LFS deal with one or two manufacturers, the problem I am having is which one is better to go with or if there is even a difference with them.

I've heard good things about both companies you listed. Someone told me that Planet Aquariums are usually priced a little better because they're still trying to get their name into the market.

Thanks guys. I swung by Salty Fish today and spoke to Terry about tanks. He mentioned that he had a Planet Aquarium 6'x2'x18" and i had to check it out. The wife came with me and liked the footprint of the tank. So...Friday I'll swing by and secure the tank and start the process of doing a new build.

Exciting times indeed. I'll be setting up a new thread to document the process. Next step is ordering rock and creating a mock footprint of the new tank to work on the aquascape!!! Excitement!

That's going to be a sweet tank. 18" deep is going to be awesome! Can't wait to see what you do with it man. Is it reef ready?

That will be a nice foot print. The 18" depth is so much easier to maintain and good light penetration can be accomplished without running the light on full intensity.

I have used planet aquariums AGE and One for I can't think of a name those guys far far some where in east cost . Anyways main thing u look for us warranty and it will only be covered if you use their Stand . Customs aquariums are not cheap specially with the stand and delivery . Planet aquariums are fairly new guys but the not new in hobby and they have done excellent work on my custom cube . These are guys close to us and delivery is not an issue to the LFS . I had gotten just about same quote from three different manufacturers for my current system including reef savvy but delivery charges were running me close to 500 . I went with planet aquarium and I am very happy

A year ago I purchased a 60 gallon cube from Planet Aquarium. The edges of the glass were beveled, and the Silicone was neat with no bubbles on the seams. I will have them build my next tank/stand.

Thanks guys and I would agree with you on the warranty. If I was going to pay that much money, I would like to ensure that my warranty was still valid. Otherwise I would have been trolling on the for sale forum or other sites for the tank I want. Fortunately, this was available and and Terry has been pretty awesome.

I've heard great things about Planet and this will be my first with them and a custom job no less. I normally wouldn't go for a custom job as the cost would not be worth it in my opinion but a customer decided to change their mind and go with a rimless. As I'm not a big fan of rimless, this was my score!
